Call out to First Lady Jill Biden; Kevin McCarthy will support Donald Trump
Thoughts for the day
Another mass shooting in Las Vegas
Talk about ironic. The same day the National Rifle Association (NRA) was busy slamming Senator Chuck Schumer for reintroducing a ban on so-called "assault weapons" a lone gunman shot and killed 3 people on campus at UNLV.
The NRA claims the New York lawmaker and his Democratic colleagues want to "destroy our self-defense and Second Amendment rights." I wonder how the families and friends of the recently murdered victims in Nevada feel about the association's latest challenge?
In the past, I have urged Presidents Obama, Trump and Biden to convene a gun summit at Camp David. Much like when former First Lady Rosalynn Carter urged her husband to bring old warriors Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Menachem Begin together in 1978, I respectfully urge Dr. Jill Biden to lobby for a Camp David summit now with representatives of the NRA, 2nd Amendment proponents, law enforcement and loved ones of victims gunned down in attendance.
How many more innocents have to die before Congress enacts a course correction when it comes to gun safety in America? Surely, there are several commonsense changes in federal law gun owners can accept. Dr. Biden, please encourage your husband to convene a Camp David gun summit as soon as possible.

Ousted Speaker McCarthy said what?
Former "Young Gun" Kevin McCarthy's endorsement of Donald Trump is another in a series of bad decisions by the ousted Speaker. Here's what he said earlier today on "CBS Sunday Morning" hosted by Robert Costa: "I will support the president. I will support President Trump.”
Too bad McCarthy didn't say, "I will support Donald Trump -- the sexual abuser who is a twice impeached and current defendant in four federal and state cases." Or, he could have echoed what Chris Christie said during last week's GOP presidential debate, "I will support Donald Trump -- the candidate who won't be able to vote for himself next November because he'll be a convicted felon.”
In my opinion, Kevin McCarthy has little or no moral compass. On the one hand, he did say the former president bears responsibility for the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. On the other hand, he did visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago weeks later. In case you've forgotten, here's a photo of the two. It was a picture that generated a million words.
When Kevin McCarthy was elected to Congress in 2007, he and his Young Gun friends Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor vowed to shake up the GOP status quo in the House. Today, he is a lame duck who intends to vacate his seat before the end of the year.
For a guy who served as Speaker for less than 9 months, I'm guessing this isn't exactly the way McCarthy envisioned his political career would end. Instead, I imagine he hoped to serve as the leader of the House Republicans for years. Maybe even have a building named after him. I'm all for that, especially if that naming opportunity ends up on a construction porta potty somewhere far from Washington.

If only Jill Biden were as strong as Rosalynn Carter.
I have held a belief for a while that if there were no women we wouldn't have Christmas. My Jewish friends at the end of the block even agree. Watching men having to pick out and exchange gifts is excruciating. So maybe Jill writes the invitations and Joe makes the call?
