How do you define woke?

For the past two months, I've been asking my friends on both sides of the political aisle, "How do you define woke?" Not surprisingly, virtually everyone has given me a different answer.

I'm not sure how or why "woke" has become such a lightning rod, but clearly it has. I don't know if the top two presidential candidates still will be debating it in the run-up to next year's election, but the definition below works for me. I'll be curious to see if it does for you. DF

It just seems so ridiculous for supposedly intelligent grown ups to go around using a phrase that no one but they understand as if they were part of an elite cult. I think it is about as intelligent as teenagers 50 years ago using the word “ bitchin.”
