A distinction with a difference

Since the news broke last night about the FBI searching Donald Trump's home at Mar-a-Lago, I have received six phone calls and more than a dozen text messages (from Republican friends). Basically, they all believe yesterday's raid (their word) was planned by Joe Biden.
I reminded my friends there is a significant difference between a legal search and an impromptu raid. For starters, FBI agents would have had to prove their claim that a search was warranted. This means the FBI Director and the Attorney General both had to sign off on their assertion/s. Second, a magistrate of the court also had to approve the search. Third, FBI agents notified Trump's Secret Service detail they were coming at a certain time on a certain date. All of this was by the book. A raid is a different animal altogether. It's what SWAT teams conduct on a suspected mafia kingpin or notorious drug dealer.
As for Joe Biden planning the FBI's search at Mar-a-Lago, get a grip. This may be a great talking point for FOX, but where's the proof? I know the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, but this is crazy talk. Yesterday's search was legal. It was not a raid. This is a classic case of a distinction with a difference.

Yes, this WILL be a talking point on FOXNews(?) - and campaign stumps and ads and the rest of the Repub Right's media screeds. It seems that no one right of center can actually face up to the truth that DJT - the EX-president - is a criminal con-man, more versed in the ways of the Mafia than democracy. Even after he declares bankruptcy (again) and flees to Turkey or Saudi Arabia or some such non-extraditing autocracy, MAGA types will still believe he's the legitimately elected president and represents the True American Ideals.
I just don't understand how smart people can be so stupid.
