What's the cost of knowingly broadcasting lies to the public? A cool $787.5 million that's what.
Thought for the day
So Dominion has agreed to accept a $787.5 million payment to settle its lawsuit against Fox News. Much of the damage the cable channel caused was inflicted by three of its top headliners (namely Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham).
I wish the settlement agreement included a clause forcing the Big Three off the air until they reimburse Fox the $787.5 million. This means each of them would owe Fox approximately $262 million. Can you imagine the panic all of them would experience if this actually happened?
To be sure, many others at Fox knew Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham were spreading lies after the 2020 prez. election. Clearly, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech. Thankfully, in the Dominion case, the First Amendment doesn't protect Fox and its employees from knowingly broadcasting fake, damaging news.
Kudos to Dominion for filing this lawsuit in the first place. Long live the rule of law.
