Like many Californians, my family and I have always looked forward to our trips to Arizona. That's because my two older brothers both owned properties in Phoenix and Scottsdale for years, my youngest son graduated from the UofA, and visits to Sedona were a must.
With this backdrop in mind, I don't intend to set foot in the Grand Canyon State until yesterday's state Supreme Court abortion ruling -- based on a law written 160 years ago -- is overturned (hopefully in November, if not before).
Back in 1984, when I helped produce a televised presidential debate in Iowa, I remember the pilot's words as we were about to land. He said, "Folks, we are on our approach into Des Moines. Thanks for flying with us and welcome to 1956." Given what just happened Arizona, I imagine some pilots might be tempted today to tell their passengers, "We are on our approach into Phoenix. Thanks for flying with us and welcome to 1864."
So, while I am boycotting setting foot in Arizona for the foreseeable future, that doesn't mean I can't send money to Planned Parenthood or other organizations opposed to yesterday's horrific abortion ruling. If you are like-minded, then let's talk about raising money together. Send me a note at my personal email address. It’s dennyfreidenrich@gmail.com. Thanks.
