I was working on Capitol Hill when the infamous Watergate break-in took place. That said, I think it’s safe to say I am about the only person you know who actually read the Washington Post’s first 2-inch story about what happened 49 years ago today.

What started out as a trickle of information in 1972, eventually turned into a flood of lies two years later. I don't think I will ever forget President Nixon telling reporters, "People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I'm not a crook."
