The following is my response to yesterday’s Orange County Register editorial, "Pelosi attack: no caveats, it's just so wrong.”
Your editorial was excellent. I just wish it had focused more on Donald Trump, not Don Jr., Keri Lake or Larry Elder. Beginning with the day the senior Trump rode down the escalator to announce his campaign for president seven years ago, he's been urging his followers to take up arms. Who could have guessed that would mean beating an 82-year-old man with a hammer?
Your conclusion was correct: "When it comes to this incident, more voices from the right need to say as much without any caveats." To be fair, several GOP lawmakers responded to the news about Paul Pelosi within hours, but not Trump. It took him two days to comment. In that time, many conspiracy theories about what "really" happened in San Francisco were floated on air waves and web sites. The latest coming from the former president himself. On Tuesday, Trump all but said there was no break-in at the Pelosi home. Had there been, shattered glass would have been found inside the house, not outside on the patio.
Violence begets violence. If you ask me, there is a straight line that directly connects today's political violence to Donald Trump. For the good of the country, this conspiracy-waging, unrepentant man must never be allowed to run for president again.
