Wednesday’s fire at the 73 and 133
Living at The Artisan apartment complex on El Toro Road, I am more than a little anxious whenever I hear the words, “Fire in the canyon.”
Imagine how I felt Wednesday afternoon when I heard there was a blaze within walking distance of where I live.
Thanks to the quick action of Laguna’s Fire Department, the 8-acre fire at the 73 and 133 was contained in approximately two hours.
I know the department trains extensively for events like this; still, I want Fire Chief Mike Garcia to know how grateful this longtime Laguna resident is today.

Today, the Los Angeles Times published this letter:
Reopening: Process, not a brief milestone
Now that the U. S. has reached the grim record of more than 600,000 COVID-19 deaths, a little perspective is in order.
First, that figure far exceeds the population of the city of Long Beach.
Second, if every person who has died after contracting the virus was represented by a single sheet of paper, that tower would stand about 200 feet in the air.
Isn’t it time we start thinking about building a monument to those who have passed away during the pandemic?
