Have you ever heard a president threaten to imprison members of Congress if they override a veto or turn thumbs down on a Supreme Court nominee? Of course not. To be sure, members have been arrested, tried, and convicted for taking bribes, but not for participating in committee hearings.
Upon learning that Donald Trump would like all members of the January 6 Select Committee to be jailed, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a high school classmate of mine in 1964, and a fellow staff assistant in Congressman Don Edwards' Capitol Hill office in 1972, said this: "I don't know if Donald Trump has ever read the Constitution but Article One, Section Six clearly provides that members of the House and Senate cannot be prosecuted for doing their legislative jobs."
The heroes who died at Normandy in 1944 were defending democracy, just like Zoe and her committee colleagues were doing two years ago in Washington. The former president is on record as saying if elected in November, he plans to terminate parts of our Constitution. I wonder which parts he is considering? That question aside, let me end with this thought: If the thousands of U.S. troops who were killed helping to liberate Europe 80 years ago knew what Trump's plan was now, I’m guessing they’d be first in line to say, "No."
As always, I invite you to comment.

I am so sick and tired of hearing that egomaniac. I can't wait for the day I no longer (maybe that will never come with a press that is opposed with him) hear his voice. I really think he means what he says, he would like to rule like Putin and others. He wants people to be afraid of him, just like any bully. Someone is going to punch back and then he will run with his little penis between his legs.
I would rather hear more about Democratic talking points than more of the same DJT rants revisited. The previous guy has been repeating the same threats and promises of chaos and revenge for quite a while - there's nothing new there. But the media & pundits keep repeating his rants ad nauseum. Everyone who cares already knows he will do his best to blow up the constitution and the country. Why help him solidify his base?
How about some focus on the current president's deeds and triumphs, the talking points of Dem-leaning pundits - or at least anti-trump Republicans. Democrats have always been disorganized and wide-ranging in their issues, but it seems time to start pulling together and developing messaging that is simple, straight-forward and - most importantly - memorable. Maybe help some folks remember why Biden is a better choice - than anyone else.
