Trump says he will jail political opponents
This keeps me up at night. It should keep you up, too.
The following is a 2-part post. The first part is a recap of a recent front page story in the Los Angels Times. The second part is my opinion about Rep. Zoe Lofgren (who is quoted in the story). I hope you will find today’s FreidomReport of interest.
Trump says he'll jail his opponents. Members of the House Jan. 6 committee are preparing
Story by Sarah D. Wire
Pictured are Calif. Democratic Reps. Pete Aguilar of Redlands, Adam B. Schiff of Burbank and Zoe Lofgren of San Jose, all members of the House Jan. 6 panel, could be among Trump's targets if he's reelected.
Members of the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol have warned America for three years to take former President Donald Trump at his word.
Now, as Trump is poised to win the Republican presidential nomination, his criminal trials face delays that could stall them past election day, and his rhetoric grows increasingly authoritarian, some of those lawmakers find themselves following their own advice.
In mid-March, Trump said on social media that the committee members should be jailed. In
December he vowed to be a dictator on "day one." In August, he said he would "have no choice" but to lock up his political opponents.
"If he intends to eliminate our constitutional system and start arresting his political enemies, I guess I would be on that list,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose). “One thing I did learn on the committee is to pay attention and listen to what Trump says, because he means it.”
Lofgren added that she doesn't yet have a plan in place to thwart potential retribution by Trump. But Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Burbank), who has long been a burr in Trump's side, said he’s having “real-time conversations” with his staff about how to make sure he stays safe if Trump follows through on his threats.
Now for my opinion about Rep. Zoe Lofgren …
I have known Zoe Lofgren since 1963, when we first met as sophomores in high school. Nine years later, we served together as congressional aides to the late Rep. Don Edwards on Capitol Hill. If that wasn't enough, my 29-year-old daughter is named after my old friend.
Zoe Lofgren is one of the smartest people I have ever known or worked with in my adult life. With this thought in mind, when Zoe says she expects to be a target of Donald Trump's, should he be reelected in November, I believe her. You should, too.
I watched every minute of every hearing held by the House Committee investigating Jan. 6. Instead of being worried about Trump's threats of retaliation and jail terms, I believe every freedom-loving man, woman and child in America owes Zoe, Liz Cheney and all of the committee members a sincere debt of gratitude. Thanks to their hard work, we know who really should be in jail.

I am listening to Joan Baez as I prepare for company…..a full day of cooking. It has been a long time since I listened to her, but in my teens she was my hero. I am hoping that her former followers are thinking about those values she inspired in us when we were young and idealistic. We should be questioning how we could have let Trump and his amoral followers gain so much of a following in our country.
We may not have the physical presence we once had but I hope that there are enough of us who are
shocked by Trump and his followers that we will fight them with our words and actions.
Regarding “Trump says he will jail his political opponents”. Denny Freidenrich can’t sleep at night. Really?
I will remind Denny that during former President Trump’s time in office, he didn’t issue Hillary Clinton so much as a speeding ticket even though candidate Trump vowed to jail Clinton.
What nonsense!
