Yesterday, June 8, 2023 -- a date which will live in legal infamy -- former President Donald J. Trump was indicted on seven federal charges. According to numerous sources, they include conspiracy to obstruct, document retention, witness tampering and/or a violation of the Espionage Act.
In this country, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. This principle applies to a suspected bank robber as well as someone like Trump. I am not an attorney, but I assume Special Council Jack Smith and his DOJ investigators believe they have a solid case against 45. Not surprisingly, Trump loyalists in Congress already have launched a P.R. campaign claiming politically-charged Merrick Garland should be impeached. Why? Because he's refused to indict Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden on the same federal charges as you know who.
Make no mistake about it, America has a robust legal system that can and will withstand every "weaponized" challenge Donald Trump and his lawyers level against it. Do I believe the former president's indictment is warranted? Yes. Do I believe there is a deep state conspiracy out to destroy Trump? No. Do I believe 45 will be convicted and sent to prison? That's for a jury to decide.
Agree or disagree, I'd like to hear your reaction to yesterday's big news.
