Alex Azar served as Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Trump.

Alex Azar's recent guest essay in the New York Times, “I Was the Architect of Operation Warp Speed. I Have a Message for All Americans,” was one of the best, most compelling GOP insider reports I have read since the COVID pandemic began.  He hit the nail on the head when he said conservative, Republican Party leaders like Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, Sean Hannity of Fox News and Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana are to be commended for urging party faithful to get vaccinated.  

I just wish Mr. Azar had urged the nation's Number One GOP influencer -- his former boss, President Donald Trump -- to do more than get vaccinated in private before leaving the White House. Think how many millions of reluctant Republicans would have rolled up their sleeves by now if Mr. Trump had been loudly and consistently telling his supporters for the past seven months, "The vaccine is safe. It saves lives. It very well might save yours. Stop procrastinating. Get a shot now before you end up in the hospital or worse."
