Newt. Jail time. Really?

Newt Gingrich's comments (Sunday on Fox) that members of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection could end up in jail were foolish at best and dangerous at worst. 

Has the former Speaker forgotten the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) hearings of the 1950s or the Watergate hearings 20 years later?  Generally speaking, Democrats objected to HUAC and Republicans objected to Watergate; still, members of both committees did their work.  None of them were threatened with jail time. 

Newt Gingrich owes the American people an apology.  Better yet, he should simply stop talking altogether.
