Money speaks. Or should I say, money has finally made Rupert Murdoch speak.
In this case, Dominion's $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox News has forced Murdoch to admit, under oath, he knew the 2020 "Big Lie" several of the station's commentators (i.e., talking heads) kept repeating were false.
More to the point, Murdoch knew, as did former Attorney General Bill Barr, Trump's election fraud claims "were BS."
So why did Murdoch remain silent while Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham repeatedly told millions of Fox viewers Dominion's voting machines were rigged, the election was stolen, and that Trump won? Simple. It's called m-o-n-e-y. Murdoch was afraid that if Fox accurately reported the lead up to, and the results of, the 2020 election, Fox would lose viewers. And you know what that means? Fox would lose millions in ad revenue. Lots of it.
Don't get me wrong. I applaud legitimate news organizations that make a profit. What I don't approve of is Fox News pretending to be a "fair and balanced" news channel. How can it when someone like Murdoch remains silent while the station's top hosts knowingly spew election lies to unsuspecting, gullible viewers?
In the name of journalistic ethics, I hope Dominion wins its lawsuit against Fox. If that happens, I wonder if the station's talking heads will "go live" when Murdoch is required to write a $1.6 billion check?
