When people ask me why I write so many letters and/or post so often on my FreidomReport blog I typically answer, "Because I can." I guess another way of answering the question is this: "Because I need to."
To be clear, I don't aspire to write the great American novel, but I have learned how to express my opinion. Like a ballplayer who fields 1,000 grounders in practice to improve his/her fielding ability, I practice every day to improve my craft. (In case you’re wondering, this is my way of saying what started out in 1972 as a hobby has become a full-time addiction today.)
With this last thought in mind, here's my scorecard for '23. The NY Times, NY Post, Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Austin American-Statesman, San Jose Mercury News, LA Times, OC Register, Daily Pilot and several other papers published more than 50 of my letters this year. On top of that, I posted more than 120 blogs. This adds up to something I've written being "out there" every two days or so. Not bad for a self-taught writer who barely passed Freshman English at USC, right?
Now that 2024 is just around the corner, I'm sure there will be plenty for me to write about in the coming months. No matter if you agree with my opinion or not, I always appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for your encouragement and, yes, even your criticism. Both inspire me to become a better writer each year. Enjoy the holidays and take good care.

As a sometime writer (I wrote a memoir when Andrew left home) I really enjoy seeing you every other day. I don't know what it takes to get into a newspaper as a regular contributor today but if you need a LofR I'll be honored to write one. Happy Hollydaze wherever you travel and see you in 2024 (or as my Grandpa used to say, "see you in the funny papers.")
Denny, keep it up!
Your comments and opinions are always concise and to the point. I always enjoy them and yes, I agree with them.
Enjoy the holidays!
