When we started the year, Donald Trump was president. Six days later, rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to thwart the peaceful transfer of power. The after-effects of that event, coupled with all things COVID, have dominated American life all year. If you ask me, both will continue to influence our lives in 2022.
Thankfully, some aspects of life have survived the tumolt of '21. Baseball made a big comeback. So did college football. Bob Dylan turned 80, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson launched rocket ships into space, and Joey Chestnut again won the annual Nathan's 4th of July hot dog contest. He ate 76 in ten minutes.
But there also have been some very disturbing firsts this year. Who could ever have imagined a member of Congress wanting to award the Congressional Gold Medal to a teenager for shooting and killing two people in Kenosha, Wisconsin, or that people were videotaped verbally threatening neighbors for urging local school boards to enact vaccine protocols for students?
As for me, I launched my FreidomReport blog ten months ago. Since then, I have posted more than 150 commentaries. For those of you who like math, that averages about 15 a month, or one piece every two days.
In years past, I judged the success of my efforts the old fashioned way. That was, seeing my letters or opinion pieces published in newspapers and magazines. Today, not so much.
Don't get me wrong. I'm always happy when a submission of mine gets printed; but, right now I'm more excited to see where my blog takes me next year.
So, to those of you who already are FreidomReport subscribers, many thanks. And to those of you reading this post who haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for? It's free!
Happy holidays everyone. Take good care and be well.
