Today’s Orange County Register editorial is entitled, “Clearly, Eastman hurt our democracy.” Here are a few excerpts:
We didn’t always agree with former Chapman University law school dean John Eastman. But we had long admired his career touting constitutional limits on government power. It’s sad to watch a brilliant legal mind use his talents to undermine our democratic system rather than uphold it.
My reaction to the paper’s editorial is as follows. If you have a different reaction, please let me know.
I agree with your editorial. John Eastman's dubious plan to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election has damaged democracy. But, let's face it, he's not the only attorney who peddled twisted ideas. Rudy Giuliani, Kenneth Chesebro, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Jeffrey Clark and other lawyers have yet to be held fully accountable for their attacks on democracy as well. To paraphrase Watergate's John Dean, "Shame on them. They all are a cancer on our democracy, not just the presidency."
