Yesterday I attended my daughter-in-law’s 31st birthday, which also happened to coincide with her baby son’s first month b-day. Interestingly, Dianne Feinstein’s name came up several times while we were enjoying lunch.
Our conversation wasn’t so much about would the senator resign, but who Gov. Newsom might appoint to fill the vacancy should it occur. Would he appoint himself or would he name one of the three candidates already in the 2024 race (Reps. Barbara Lee, Katie Porter or Adam Schiff)?
My suggestion is simple: The governor should pick former Sen. Barbara Boxer. I don’t know if she is supporting Lee, Porter or Schiff, but I do know this: Given Boxer’s 20 years in the Senate, she could hit the ground running on day one.
I’ll be anxious to see which candidate wins the 2024 election to succeed Dianne Feinstein. In the meantime, I’m leaning on experience over personality (should the senator resign). How ‘bout you?
