We live in serious times. Every so often, it pays to take a humorous look at the events of the day. I hope you will agree.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is one of former President Donald Trump's most ardent supporters. I've given up counting how many times Jordan has ridiculed Speaker Nancy Pelosi for refusing to name him to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection, or how many times he has said fake news accounts have placed Trump at the center of a vast conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
To the best of my knowledge, the Ohio lawmaker has not testified before the House Select Committee; however, if he did, I imagine the print out of his deposition would look like this:
----------------
House Committee Lawyer (HCL): Mr. Jordan, you understand that failing to provide this committee with truthful answers can and will result in criminal charges being brought against you. Is that your understanding?
Rep. Jordan (J): Yes it is.
HCL: Mr. Jordan, the official White House call logs reveal you and former President Trump had two telephone conversations on January 6, 2021. Can you tell my colleagues and me if that is correct?
J: No, I cannot.
HCL: Why is that Mr. Jordan? Are the White House call logs incorrect, or do you simply not remember?
J: Both.
HCL: Do you wish to elaborate?
J: No.
HCL: Mr. Jordan, are you aware that as many as five of your House colleagues participated in conversations with key Trump allies, such as Rudy Giuilani and John Eastman, to prevent then-Vice President Mike Pence from counting Electoral College votes on Jan. 6?
J: They were? That's horrible.
HCL: Mr. Jordan, are you aware that as many as five of your House colleagues participated in conversations with key Trump allies, such as Mr. Eastman and Sidney Powell, to swap out legitimate federal electors with fake electors?
J: Really? Is that true?
HCL: Mr. Jordan, are you aware that as many as five of your House colleagues participated in conversations with key Trump allies, such as Roger Stone and Michael Flynn, to encourage protesters to storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6?
J: Why would they do that?
HCL: Come now, Mr. Jordan. Surely you recall seeing video of hundreds of rioters rampaging through the Capitol on Jan. 6.
J: Rampaging through the Capitol? No. I agree with my House colleague Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia. Jan. 6 was a typical day of tourists up on the Hill.
HCL: Last question about your House colleagues. Mr. Jordan, are you aware that these same five members of Congress that I have referred to asked the White House for presidential pardons in the wake of Jan. 6?
J: No. Why would they do that?
HCL: Mr. Jordan, if you had been named to the House Select Committee investigating the events on Jan. 6, 2021, what questions would you have asked of witnesses to date?
J: Oh, that's easy. Why are you participating in a sham investigation and why are you lying to the American public? Shame on each of you. How can you look in the mirror knowing your testimony is helping to shred the fabric of our democracy? Don’t you realize what some call the Big Lie really is the Big Truth?
HCL: Thank you Mr. Jordan. I just have two closing comments: First, the shame is on you; and second, have you no decency, sir?

Good one!
