Yesterday, Mitch McConnell announced he would not seek reelection next year. What did Republican Senators do? They gave him a standing ovation (presumably for his 40+ years of service). If only these same lawmakers would stand up to Donald Trump.
When and how did it become acceptable for GOP Senators to remain silent in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine? Back in 2014, Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham were quite outspoken when asked what America's response should be. In a nutshell, they and other Republicans criticized Barack Obama for not being tough enough on Russia.
Today, Rubio, who is now Secretary of State, and Graham are singing very different tunes as Trump trashes Volodmyr Zelensky and heaps praise on Vladimir Putin. I'm no geopolitical expert, but what do you think our NATO allies are asking themselves as they watch the President of the United States cozy up to Russia's strongman?
Call me naive, but shouldn't every Senator link arms and shout down 47's dramatic change in U.S. foreign policy? As usual, I encourage you to send me your thoughts.

Call me naive, but I doubt that any Republican Senator will join THAT line dance until the Dems take control of both houses and decide to start - yet again - impeachment hearings against #47 & his VP (perhaps after the mid-terms, if the voters do their job).
They are unwilling to risk a rëelection challenge by a Trump/Musk-backed candidate, and even if they are willing to retire alá McConnell, they fear the death threats from the Proud Boyz, 3%ers and the like, which is very much more real than most recognize. Here in WA, even Republican representatives are being challenged at town halls by pistol-toting MAGAts who get up close & personal, ask very specific "policy" questions, all while displaying their weapons.
It's a very weird time in the Good Ol' USA.
No question that Putin and Russia were the real winners in the U.S. Presidential election. For whatever reason, trump is in love with Putin, a cold-blooded killer. He hasn't had an honest election in years, anyone that runs against him or is outspoken against him is dead. Is this where trump is going?
