Now that the Jan. 6 House Select Committee has voted to send criminal referrals to the Department of Justice, I wonder how long it will take the former president, Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman to realize country must always trump party?
These four, along with others like Sidney Powell, who helped concoct the fake electors scheme, and Michael Flynn, whose idea it was to declare martial law on election day and abruptly end the counting of ballots, weren't the only people engaged in illegal or nefarious activities. Thanks to texts recently made public, we now know dozens of GOP members of Congress were actively discussing ways to overturn the results of the 2020 election and, thus, prevent the peaceful transfer of power to Joe Biden. As far as these electeds were concerned, “The Constitution be damned.” Clearly each action was designed with one purpose in mind: To keep Republican Donald Trump in office.
On behalf of a grateful nation, I want to thank the Select Committee for its commitment to seek the truth about what happened in the days leading up to, and following, the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol. From here on out, it's up to DOJ to decide which of these Big Lie conspirators need to be prosecuted for crimes against the nation.
I certainly hope they do but unfortunately past examples have shown that the wealthy and corrupt parties escape justice as unfortunately there are too many people involved in government with self serving interest and not the national betterment of the governed
