Kudos to Pfizer and Moderna (and J&J slightly less) for delivering life-saving COVID vaccines in record time. Today, close to 150 million Americans have had at least one shot. The goal now is to convince another 100 million or more people to roll up their sleeves before the 4th of July.
One way to achieve this goal is to offer corporate incentives. For example, Pavilions is offering customers 10 percent discounts on groceries with proof of having been vaccinated. Wouldn’t it be great if Laguna’s other grocery stores did the same thing?
Burgers and tacos also need to be on the incentive menu. Customer discounts for “Cookin’ up a COVID recipe” easily could become a rallying cry for Laguna’s restaurants along with Orange County fast food giants. Not to be outdone, Orange County shoe companies could launch a 60-day ad campaign offering customers discounts after they “run to get vaccinated.”
While corporate incentive possibilities are endless, time is finite. This is especially true if America is to reach its goal of vaccinating at least 250 million people by July 4th.
It’s often been said that what first happens in California eventually takes hold nationwide. Assuming that is true, let me offer a new twist: What first happens in Orange County eventually takes hold statewide.
Nothing could be more important than making sure millions of COVID shots get administered as quickly as possible. That said, I hope local corporate giants will roll up their sleeves and creatively offer incentives to their customers for getting vaccinated.
