Picture this: I'm waiting at the dealer while my car is undergoing a 15,000-mile inspection/tune up. To pass the time, I'm watching CNN. I say "I'm watching" because for 20 minutes I was the only person in the waiting area. After that, things changed (literally and figuratively). First, I finally was joined by someone else; and second, it was clear he didn't like what I was watching.
When I said, "I'm happy to change the channel to Good Morning America," he balked. "I want to watch Fox," he said. Because I sometimes watch Fox, I wasn't totally opposed, but I wanted to know for how long? I think my fellow traveler was shocked that I might agree so he replied, "For as long as you've been watching CNN." That'll never happen I told myself, so I countered with, "How ‘bout we watch CNN for another 10 minutes before switching to Fox." To my surprise, he agreed.
The good news is we were able to compromise enough to satisfy the two of us. The best news is I received a text informing me my car was ready for pick up before changing the channel to Fox (which is what I was hoping would happen).
I know "compromise" is a dirty word in Washington, but it clearly worked this morning in Orange County. If only things were this easy in D.C., right?

Proud of you. I will try to remember this is I am ever put in this position. It is exactly the right thing to day, Neither of you got out a gun and shot the other - this is a step in the right direction. Let's hope we can all do this.
Really a nice parable!
