With Tuesday's announcement by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research that only 11 percent of persons currently unvaccinated plan to get a COVID shot, it's no wonder incentive plans are popping up everywhere. Today, McDonalds, Target, Albertsons, Budweiser, Krispy Kreme and many other national retailers are offering customers everything from vital information about vaccines on coffee cups to free groceries, beer and more.
According to Forbes, CNN and Pew Research as many as 40 percent of Donald Trump's 74 million Republican voters fall into the current "unwilling" category. If we are to reach the goal of vaccinating 100 million more people by July 4th, then it's going to take an "all hands on deck" effort. This includes the active participation of the one person 30 million GOP partisans listen to more than their personal physician or best friend. That is former President Donald Trump.
I realize Mr. Trump and his supporters believe the 2020 election was stolen. But there comes a time when people have to put their personal politics aside and do what's best for the country. Between now and the 4th of July, that time has arrived. With this thought in mind, the former president needs to cut a public service ad urging tens of millions of Republicans to do what he did before leaving office -- get vaccinated.
Donald Trump rightfully deserves credit for bringing Operation Warp Speed on line so quickly. Without it, Pfizer, Moderna and J&J still might be developing vaccines in their laboratories. Today, we are in sight of herd immunity against the deadly coronavirus. Mr. Trump, you can play a pivotal role in achieving this goal sooner rather than later. Please, sir, tell your supporters, many of whom drive thru McDonalds, buy clothes and kitchen supplies at Target or grocery shop at Albertsons, you want them to get their COVID shots now.

McDonald's coffee cups will soon come with a pro-vaccination message.
