Today's shooting in Nashville, which took the lives of three 9-year-olds and three adults, has affected me more than the massacres at Sandy Hook, Parkland or Uvalde. I'm guessing the reason today's shooting is bothering so much is the fact that I didn't have grandchildren when those tragedies occurred, but I do now.
Despite the fact my granddaughter is only 8 months old and her little cousin is but 9 days old, I know it won't be long before they both are enrolled in elementary school. I never worried about gun shots ringing out when their parents were in 4th grade, but I do worry for my grand kids’ safety today.
To be sure, talking about gun control can be complicated, especially when the 2nd Amendment is included in the discussion. Still, I wonder how many more children have to die before lawmakers wake up and smell the gun powder?
Once again, I urge the president to convene a summit at Camp David with representatives from the NRA, school officials and grieving parents. It won’t be easy, but I am confident they eventually will be able to find common ground on which to agree. At least that’s my hope.

unfortunately nothing seems to change no matter how many shootings
The more this happens they are going to need to hold the summit in a stadium. I too never worried that Andrew's classroom wasn't safe from someone with an assault rifle but Charlie is in pre-school now in Ohio and I worry every Tues-Thurs. Next year I don't want to worry all week long.
