Zoe Lofgren named to the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot
Because Rep. Zoe Lofgren and I went to high school together in 1964, and then ended up as congressional aides to Rep. Don Edwards on Capitol Hill in 1972, I feel I am as qualified as anyone to speak about the California lawmaker.
First, Zoe Lofgren is one of the smartest people I have ever known. When we worked together in Washington, I marveled how quickly she could grasp a new concept, quote statistics related to the topic the following week, and circle back to it 90 days later. More than once, I have publicly urged Democratic candidates running for president to name Zoe as their running mate.
Second, for those old enough to remember Golda Meir, Zoe can be just as tough as the late Israeli prime minister. And third, each time my old friend is highlighted in the media, I show my 26-year-old daughter the story. Why? Because I want her to see what a strong, confident woman can achieve. I also want to remind her after whom she is named.
I am hopeful the House select committee will uncover the root causes of the January 6 riot at the Capitol. I have no doubt Zoe Lofgren will play a significant role in this important and timely investigation.
